Address books
Each mailbox starts with an address book named Contacts, which can't be deleted. Add more (up to 20) with + next to Address books. All contacts lists every address book together.
Contacts
A contact has a first and last name, company and job title, email addresses, phone numbers, postal addresses and websites (each labeled, for example work or mobile), a birthday, notes and a photo (JPEG, PNG, GIF or WebP, up to 1 MB). It needs at least a name, company, email or phone.
Contacts are listed by last name. Search matches names, companies, email addresses and phone numbers (with or without spaces and punctuation); every word must match.
On your Mac
Contacts on Mac shows the mailbox's address books when the mailbox is added as an Exchange account; see Apple devices.
Import and export
Import .vcf in an address book's … menu adds the contacts in a vCard file (versions 3.0 and 4.0, up to 5 MB and 5,000 contacts), photos included; contacts already there (same UID) are replaced. Export .vcf downloads vCard 4.0; Export .vcf (vCard 3.0) is for apps that need the older version. Fields Contacts doesn't show are kept and exported again.
API
The contacts API lists, searches, creates, changes, deletes, imports and exports contacts.
